The PREAMBLE TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION
Love One Another as the Constitutional Moral Compass
NOT Wealth, NOT Corporations, NOT Bribes of Another Nation
In one sense, this is a purely historical discussion on constant FAILURE of the U.S. Government to abide by the MORAL PRINCIPLES placed at the head of the U.S. Constitution. However, if someone ever decided to obey them, the Nation would have a Moral Foundation for all Laws and Regulations. The Preamble contains the Golden Rule–Love your neighbor as yourself–in its six areas of concern, which I will attempt to summarize now:
“More Perfect Union” = Concern for Attachment to Each Other
“Establish Justice” = Concern for Equal Treatment for Each Other
“Insure Domestic Tranquility” = Concern for a Peaceful Way of Life for Each Other
“Provide for Common Defense” = Concern for Protection from Harm for Each Other
“Preserve General Welfare” = Concern for Quality of Life for Each Other
“Secure Blessings of Liberty” = Concern for Stabilized Happiness for Each Other
The Intended Purpose of THE PREAMBLE
In the old Latin language, a praeambulus (pronounced, pray-ahm-boo-loos) literally meant “walking before” or “walking ahead.” Yet centuries later, the English usages of “preamble” had not only this meaning, but another formal and legal use. In the Oxford English Dictionary, we read that preamble is not only a “preliminary statement,” but can be used in a most formal way with a formal guiding purpose. I will quote
“an introductory paragraph or part in a statute, deed, or other formal document
setting forth the grounds and intention of it”
(underlining and red added for emphasis and understanding)
This was precisely what the Founders intended. There was NO higher law than the Constitution. They knew it would be referred to again and again. So the Preamble was put at the very FRONT of the highest law to remind any readers the High Moral Purposes of the Constitution. Now look at the original style of the original handwritten Constitution, which proves this point.
The Visual Structure of the Original CONSTITUTION
Demonstrates the Hierarchical Function

Look at this clip of the Original handwritten U.S. Constitution submitted to the delegates in 1787, signed on 17 September. Notice that the Founders and Delegates emphasized subjects by SIZE of letters, with WE THE PEOPLE leading off and being most important, then followed by the series of clauses in what we “call” the Preamble, yet which is NOT called that at all, but which:
1. Flows after WE THE PEOPLE and which
2. Pertains to WE THE PEOPLE in every point
WE THE PEOPLE are the first three words. “WE” being all the persons composing and ratifying; THE PEOPLE being all of the citizens of the entire Nation. We need to think about what THE PEOPLE means for any Democracy:
…the Rich and Poor, the Smart and Slow, the Educated and Uneducated, the Mentally Healthy and the Mentally Ill, the Strong and Weak, the Young and Old, the Hard-Working and Lazy, the Honest and Dishonest, the Law-Abiding and Criminal, the Eager and the Helpful and Harmful, the Transparent and Manipulative, the Loyal and Traitor, the Generous and the Selfish, the Sacrificial and the Exploitive….each with a VOTE!
Both the Republican and Democrat Parties’ LEADERSHIPS decided this was INTOLERABLE. Both decided they had to manipulate the Voters, the WE THE PEOPLE who wrote and ratified the Constitution. WHY? Because EACH Party all this diversity means is this, in my opinion. NOT that a SMALL GROUP should form a Monarchy, or Oligarchy, or Dictatorship, but that Public Education, and Moral Education, and Political Education are essential for every person in the Democracy. For a sound, well-rounded education ARMS THE DEMOCRATIC MASSES with Content and Critical Thinking skills. EDUCATION is like putting a bullet in the chamber of a gun, putting concentrated and intentional force into EACH PERSON’S MIND so he or she not only “can become” but REALLY IS a Self-Governing Individual with DIRECTED POWER to vote in his or her own BEST INTEREST.
The Uneducated Voter: a Lamb for the Slaughter. An ignorant voter with the legal power to vote, being asked to choose between many Lying Treacherous Dishonest Puppets to vote for, is like a is a person in the wilderness surrounded by a pack of bloodthirsty wolves, holding a high-powered rifle with no bullets. IGNORANCE guarantees the ignorant voter will be driven by emotions only, and the Lying Politician who gets his or her vote is the wolf who gets his attention just before he pulls the voting lever. But an EDUCATED voter has an endless supply of bullets to shoot the Liars and Manipulators, right up to the point that he or she decides–as I do–just not to vote at all for a pack of wolves, because he or she refuses to “vote for the lesser of two evils” because voting for a wolf still will get one bloody or killed.
Legal Effect of the PREAMBLE
We can be thankful that on the website of the Constitution there is a page where some committee wrote a page titled, “Legal Effect of the Preamble.” While this is an interesting historical survey, and while I recommend you read the page, it demonstrates that the Preamble has had (1) no overall or consistent controlling Legal Effect in interpreting or amending the Constitution, or in adding new Federal Laws or Regulations and (2) generally rhetorical, political, and episodic manipulative uses by politicians eager to exploit the Ethical and Virtuous Substance. That short essay, “Legal Effect of the Preamble,” ends with a closing sentence which is perfectly accurate, which notes this important intended MORAL GUIDE has no legal effect in our time:
As a result, while the Preamble may have little legal weight in a court of law and may not be dispositive in resolving particular legal disputes before the political branches, the preface to the Constitution remains an important facet of the national dialogue on the country’s founding document, inspiring and fostering deeper understandings of the American system of government.
The U.S. Constitution included the law-making powers. It included that the Senators and Representatives were mandated to be paid out of the Treasury (Article I, Section 6). Notice that the first purpose of the Constitution, according to The Preamble, was to form a more perfect Union. The Founders knew that the only way they could build ONE NATION from millions of different individuals was to have Each and Every one committed to a MORE PERFECT UNION.
The REAL ENEMIES OF AMERICA have worked equally hard to keep Americans divided. As long as they could keep us divided, then they can STEER us by Emotions and Physical Needs into the directions they need.
Do you think the disregard of The Preamble was an accident?
There can be no MORE PERFECT UNION now. Why? The enemies of the United States have worked hard since World War Two–perhaps the time of our greatest National Unity–to create a Nation of Individuals, a Nation of Consumers each one wanting to “buy something,” a Nation of Happiness-Seekers each one seeking “my own happiness, my own American Dream,” which guarantees hundreds of millions of EGOISTS much easier to control.
We are a Nation of Consumers and people accustomed to being controlled by advertising emotional drivers, to get us to buy, go into debt, and learn that we made a mistake; that life is more, that family is more, and we have been lied to, once again.
